The IRS starts accepting tax returns on January 15. The `loan` someone mentioned was a Refund Anticipation Loan; if you go through a tax preparer that offers this, you can (sometimes) get a portion or all of your refund more quickly, for a large fee. If you know your employer`s tax ID number and you have your last pay stub (or can figure out the end of the year numbers from an earlier stub ) you can file, even if you have more than one employer. We`ve been filing on the earliest date for years, without waiting for W-2s. I just keep track of the employer ID numbers.

IRS will not be accepting e-file`s until JAN 15th . Once your return is transmitted to the IRS it can take up to 72 hours to be acepted by the IRS . Refunds by direct deposit are not set to begin until Friday JAN 28th . that is when the first batch is relased . They will be released every Friday after that. Paper checks will be a week behind . So the date you receive your return will depend when your return was accepted by the IRS.

You can file out your E-File on the 14th, but the IRS will not take your submission until the 15th. You DO need your W2 to file, plus last years to verify information.
