I really only deal with French agricultural property. But I can attest to the fact that property tax in France is very, very low. And you can usually petition to have that tax pushed back or waived entirely. For example, the first forty acre vineyard I bought in France, I paid less than 1500 euro annually. com <.

What a bummer, I hate to think if the way my money is being waisted and yet I'm happy to see my money put to work. There once was a joke on Little House On the Prairie when Mr. Edwards said something like, One day they will make us pay taxes on our own money we earn. There are a lot of unfair laws out there. it is something i have always wondered about. what is the point of owning land if the government and/or state can take it away from you for whatever reason? why is there a property tax on land that somebody owns? if somebody doesn't pay their property tax, the land that the individual "owns" is taken from them. as far as i know there isn't a house tax for people who own their houses 100%. so shouldn't people who own land not have strings attached like a property tax? i was thinking about purchasing some land, but now i'm starting to realize, what's the point? is a person better off renting the land rather than forking over all that money for property taxes year after year on top of actually purchasing the land. is there something i'm missing here? somebody please set me straight on this! thanks.

They cannot take away for your "for whatever reason". They can take it away from you for very few reasons, and they must pay you if they take it away from you for any reason other than you not paying money that you were supposed to pay or you breaking the law (using it to sell drugs, for example). If there was no property tax, then there would be no police or fire departments, and there would be no point to owing property, because anything you tried to build on it would be destroyed by criminals or fires. The point to owning land is so that you can pay the property tax, build something on it, and not have what you build be destroyed. Renting the land usually costs more than the property tax. Also, usually (although not right now), land can be sold for more than it cost to buy, so you make a profit (even with the property tax).

Q. Should i continue to pay taxes on land that i don't actually owned ?
when my grandfather passed away he owned 25 acres of land . since then his children have been paying the taxes , my father was one of the children but now my father has passed and i have been paying .the deed to the land remains in my grandfather's name.what should i do ? there is no will, my father's siblings are elderly and dwindling , none of my cousins are interested and i am my dad's sole hier.besides that this land is uninhabtited for several decades. also, all must agree before this land can be sold . i want to conside future possibilities , such as my grandchidren or government redevelopment etc., what's fair and what to expect.

Get it changed or if you are the legal heir sell it if you don't want it. But get the deed in your name. Contact an attorney or you city clerk.

Sorry, but it's the American land property system, inherited from ye old british feudal landholding system... it is called tenure in fee simple. That means that you effectively act as owner of the land, with full rights to build, modify or destroy what's on it, and you can sell or give away your rights, but you still hold the land from the state, and you pay a tax on it as a reminder, plus the fact that you hold rights only to the surface, not to underground exploitation (mineral), or to circulation in the airspace above a certain height (so it is legal for planes to pass above your lands). Cheer up, I hear that in some states, you can buy allodial (full and land-tax-free) property... Start checking around Nevada and other places in the southwest, if my memory is right.

what gives? please, i'd love to hear how i own the land i "own" because if i don't pay the govt, they'll come to "my" land and kill me, if that's what it takes to take my land from me. explain just how free i am/we are here in the good old usa?

How much land from river or creek is public NONE. The CREEK itself is not necessarily public. It belongs to whoever owns the land it runs though. If by 'posted' land you mean posted with 'No Trespassing' signs, ANY property owner can post such signs on property they own. And, YES a church can own property just like any other group.

people pay 30 years or more for houses and you have to pay taxes forever so it's like your just renting it from the gov. any thoughts on this anouther thing gov. needs money for police and firefighters what about the money from our paychecks every sigle week that should be more than enough most workers pay this and the tax on every single thing you buy
