You probably won't find our from your school until sometime during the summer. If your FAFSA was processed that means they should have forwarded it to you school, the school needs to review it still. I would say if you don't hear anything from your school by the end of June, I would give them a call.

FAFSA will show your expected family contribution and the school determines what you qualify for based on their cost of attendance formula. After you apply for admission and are accepted, they will review your fafsa data and create an "award letter" for you. On that letter will list all the different types of aid (grants, loans, work study, parent loans) you are being offered and how much. When you applied for fafsa it gives you an estimate of the Pell grant you might get attending full time, but it will only list the Pell and not any other forms of aid. The amount of your Pell is based on your EFC and if you post that as a question you can usually get a pretty accurate answer as to how much your Pell might be.

I agree with searching for as many scholarships as you can. But I would also work on your father... Tell him this. 1. If he gives you information about his wife, it doesn't obligate her to pay for your school. 2. Remind him the information isn't "given or shared" with any other person, agency, or entity. 3. Since they are hindering your desire to get ANY federal assistance (grants and loans), you will need MORE of their help finanically. Find out why he is unwilling.... Sometimes it's just because they haven't filed taxes (maybe for years) and don't realize that's okay and they won't get in trouble. If mom is wanted somewhere, or owes money to someone, that isn't going to matter. FAFSA just plugs numbers into a formula. Some people just need a little time to warm up to the idea.

She can submit the FAFSA at the end of the school year and she'll still be eligible for aid for the past year . According to the FAFSA website, the last day to submit applications for the 2010-2011 school year would be June 30, 2011. So she should still be eligible to receive aid; the question is when will she receive it? Financial Aid is allocated through the university. I actually found that I received my online Student Aid Report (SAR) from the government the day after I submitted my application. But, I may have been a special case. Once your sister's SAR is produced, her University receives it and then she'll work through them. For example, I had to fill out a couple forms with my University stating which semesters I was going to attend and other information. If your sister's experience is even remotely similar to mine, she'll have everything taken care of this month. But if not, her school likely has a short term loan program that will pay her tuition/book costs until she receives aid.

Have you checked into why you are not able to apply for FAFSA with this new school? Have you checked into their accreditation? Accreditation is very important. At some point you may want or need to be able to transfer the classes from this new institution to another institution (to build on those classes or degree). If you can not transfer the classes then you get to take those classes over again, wasting time and money. Be very careful with student loans, so that you do not graduate to huge debt. Q. State aid (fafsa) is due this week, but i won't have my green card till 2 weeks from now....?
i'm a little confused about the whole fafsa thing, how exactly does this work? when i fill out the fafsa application, what exactly am i applying for? all types of aid or only federal? i plan on going to college in the fall, i thought i had enough time to register and get approved for financial aid. but the due date for my state, for state aid is march 10. so i would like to make that due date. but, my green card interview isn't till march 20. i know you need a green card to get approved for fafsa. is it fafsa that denies someone based on their immigration status, or is it each organization (federal/state/..) separately? because i thought state aid does approve immigrants with no green card? i just filled out my fafsa application (i do have an alien number and ssn), and my efc is 0. so what happens when they find out i don't have my green card yet? is there chance they might not find out till after my interview, when i get approved for my green card? or can i just re-apply? but what about state aid? thanks for your help!
