The private pilot license will cost around $8000 or about $275 per week if you fly once a week. A few things for you to consider come to mind. How much can I afford to train, and how often. (FYI flying twice a month is akin to treading water, while flying once a week to twice a week is optimal. Do I feel that I`m going to get along with my instructor. Do I have a good "gut" feeling about the aircraft and instructor. Do I feel my instructor is there to teach me how to fly and not just to build their own hours. Do I have a medical issue that might prevent me from obtaining my license. Would I prefer to take ground school classes. Or study on my own with my instructors guidance. You need to define airline pilot mate. If you`re talking one of the big operators then most likely you will need to attend a Multi-Crew Pilot Licence course, which I believe the airlines run. You can go the previous way, private, commercial then airline transport, however I think you`ll find you will be most likely required to complete the MPL anyway. However for smaller, regional airlines then attending schools and progressing through the levels is a viable method.
