| ![]() Powered by | ![]() Q. Cost of living in america and the 21 alcohol law? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Q. If usa is a "free" country, then why do things cost money? the founding fathers of the united states of america intended for all goods and services to be free without having to pay money. otherwise, we're not free to eat anything we want without working and stuff. you have to work???? that's not freedom at all!!1 in a free country, nobody should have to work.
we need to make america a free country as in everything is free. here's how to do it:
1) tax the rich and then use the government funds to redistribute the money so people can buy stuff without paying, or
2) the us government can eliminate all money and just order business people to work and make good and services and if they don't, they get put in jail or something.
this is a free country, why should i have to pay for everything i eat and buy? freedom means everything should be free.
nobody should have to work and everything should be sold for free. why isn't america like that?
imagine an america where everything was free.
free transportation, free food, free healthcare, free housing, free delicious meals, free everything, you don't have to work ever if you don't want to
in a free country, i should be able to just walk into a gourmet restaurant and say "i want a chicken salad sandwich", then eat it, then walk out (why do they give you a check after you eat?)
then it's not free food.
the United States is a free country because people have freedom.

Q. How much does chocolate mousse cost in america? you know those fancy expensive restaurants you go to and order chocolate mousse, i was wonder how much does it cost to order some and how much do you get.
the reason i'm asking is because i made some homemade chocolate mousse and i have a lot of it, so i figured maybe i could sell it.
it consists of
sugar
6 eggs
almond flavored chocolate bars
some butter
amaretto that you get from an alcohol store.
its a little too sweet for my taste and since there's a lot of it, i can't eat it all. i figured i'd give them a little of it and if they want more to maybe charge them for it, at a smaller price than what they sell it for of course. that or have them to give me the money to buy the stuff with and make it for them.
$4:67

Q. You are aware that most of the money spent in iraq comes back to america? of the $320 billion total cost so far:
all the $ pay to the soldiers is sent back to their families in the usa, families who then spend that paycheck in their local towns or cities. if the average yearly paycheck is 30k (which is a fair average for the differing ranks that compose the us forces), and there is 150,000 soldiers in iraq and 20,000 in afghanistan (170,000 total) drawing such pay, the yearly cost to pay the soldiers is $5.1 billion usd. which would be about $25.5 billion since the start of the war.
all the equipment to replace damaged vehicles is bought from us corporations, which means that money comes back to the us factories that make the stuff in the form of pay for the workers who produce it. thats $275 billion that went into replacing equipment, buying body armor and protecting soldiers.
only $18.4 billion is slated to be spent locally in iraq and afghanistan on reconstruction projects.
so if all this money comes back, why complain about the cost?
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washington/articles/2006/02/03/120b_more_is_sought_for_war_efforts
that link shows that we've spent 320 so far plus have a proposed budget of 120 for this fiscal year.
if by "military industrial complex" you mean the union workers who make humvee and aircraft replacement parts then i guess the answer is yes.
boredperv- those items would have to be replaced anyway at some point, this war gives us an excuse to modernize our fleet. it might even be the case that to replace lowers our maintenance costs in the long run.
much like some people buy property and demolish the costly old house to build a new one that costs less to maintain.
you are the simpleton sir!
shawn- what would they do with the money if not expand? they surely are not paying out huge dividends. they're expanding their operations, hiring new employees, renting new buildings, etc.
smack- i think you need to study up on your federal reserve powers a bit. and though i can appreciate your conspiracy theory, i still think you need an economics 101 promer.
**my bad "primer" is what i meant to say.
as for the "republican war profiteer" motive for war, i ask you to link some specifics, besides cheney, who no longer owns halliburton stock and has his halliburton retirement dividends donated to charity every year i fail to see anyone else directly benefitting.
lj with the silly blog: as for my tipper gore question, i provided links, and sadly i cannot link you to a time machine. those of us old enough to remember it do so well enough to know what happened.
you call my question fabricated? how can i fabricate the numbers in this question? i see you won't talk specifics because you can't- all you can do is accuse me of "fabrication"----get real.
and yes, cheney did show income from halliburton, but it was deferred compensation, a standard accounting practice when you are an executive---its not surprising to me that you have never heard of it. it's not a violation of gaap, so get a clue. your blog sucks.
"And money that could be used for educations..."
Taxpayer dollars...we all pay for this. And money that could be used for educations, social programs, infrastructure, scientific research, new roads (really need these in Oklahoma), law enforcement initiatives, etc., etc.
I am all in favor of the Union employee making Humvees making a lot of money...I just wish it didn't come out of tax dollars.

Q. If i move from america to london, can i take all my stuff with me? say i wanted to move to london, can i take my furniture and stuff with me. would it cost more then $1000 dollars? and can i somehow change my american money to english money
If you don't know the answers to these questions then you're not ready to move to London.

Q. Why does america spend so much money on nasa when there are other higher priorities that we should accomplish? i wonder why the u.s. government spends so much money on nasa space exploration. for example, this last phoenix mars mission cost $520 million. i see the benefits that space exploration gives us, i just strongly believe that research like this is more of a luxury and should come second after problems such as natural disasters, disease, economic problems, education, etc. i don't get why so much cash and the brightest minds we have are going towards something that has yet to contribute any benefits aside from knowledge, mapping, etc. no cure for a disease or other significant benefit has been found out there yet, why not put those minds and dollars to use to cure some of the actual current problems such as our economy. or more government funding for college which in turn results in more higher educated citizens which results in more future researchers. i do see the benenfit, i just think fixing current problems is priority, and when we have extra money then do that stuff.
in response to gobydude, first thats another question, not an answer, so pose a question if you have your own political issues to argue. but one could see how a war, whether you believe in it or not, is more of a current / at home issue seeking investment then space exploration. at least there is an argument to a benefit, it's not about right or wrong, there is the argument that the war is 1) helping protect the u.s. for current and future attacks, and 2) help our local and world-wide economy, mostly through oil yes. however, and this is not about whether the war is right or not or even a big waste of money, there is at least an argument for a real benefit from it, my question is what is the argument for space travel aside from exploration and the chance something may be out there. and in response to w_t_isc, just because it may not go far does not mean it is not a waste of money, and that is just one mission, add in past ones and assets & salaries. any amount is better help than none
to clarify, i never said that money would cure any problem, yes in the grand scheme even that many billions would go only a small way, however that is not an answer or an excuse. just because the moeny would not cure anything does that mean it should not be at least put towards something. and pointing out other amounts of government spending or other flaws in the government is irrelevant and does follow logically or answer the question, see http://www.logicalfallacies.info. please direct any irrelevant information of other budget information or other flaws in our country to questions where that information is relevant. answering a question with answers like "well they are wasting money on a stupid war too" is not relevant, its just ignorance. all stats. regarding nasa expenditures are welcome, however the question is very simple and asks for a simple answer, not irrelevant facts. why spend money on something, when although not a cure, it could help in other areas with much more need?
First of all, NASA's budget is minuscule compared to other government agencies/departments. If you want to question the size of the operating budget of NASA, in 2009 the US budget is split as follows:
Health & Human Services: $68.5B (3.9 x NASA's budget)
Department of Energy: $25.0B (1.4 x NASA's budget)
Department of Education: $59.2B (3.4 x NASA's budget)
Department of Transportation: $63.4B (3.6 x NASA's budget)
Department of Housing & Urban Development: $38.5B (2.2 x NASA's budget)
Department of Defense: $515.4B (29.3 x NASA's budget)
Global War on Terrorism: $189.3B (10.8 x NASA's budget)
National Debt Payment: $10.2T (580 x NASA's budget)
Second, NASA's mission is not just limited to planetary exploration and human space flight. In that $17.6B, funding for Earth science, aeronautics research (both flight and flight safety), materials research, software tools development (the de facto standard software package for structural analysis was developed under a NASA contract), and the list goes on.
The current problems will not be cured by taking NASA's budget and redistributing it to other agencies. It's just not that much to make a significant impact. Plus, a significant amount of NASA's budget goes into the private sector in the form of contracts. The remainder, employee salaries, is used to groceries, cars, houses, etc. All of which are a positive influence on the US economy.
Like I said in my original post, all of NASA's budget isn't just for manned space flight. Earth sensing missions help in the development of better weather models, materials research supporting technology development projects definitely spins off into the private sector, NASA's budget boosts the US economy through contracts with private industry, and the demand for engineers and scientists within NASA puts a large demand on the US educational system. NASA's budget won't fix existing problems and if done away with, the problems would compound.
